The N800- Maybe I Just Don’t Get It?

leave a comment »

N800 and some burritos!I’ve been bringing the N800 with me wherever I go for the past week or so now, but I still can’t get a grasp on it. I’ve tried pretty hard to search around for some resources on how to expand its functionality and just learn how to use the device a bit more efficiently overall, but it’s just not working. Perhaps it’s just my lifestyle or maybe I just expect a device to have every feature under the sun or none at all?

Read ahead for some more thoughts on where this device fits with the rest of the Nseries as well as my recent personal experience trying to sell one, believe it or not.

I FOUND IT!

with one comment

Fullscreen KeyboardWell, actually, Kellee found it acceidentally on our way to dinner, but the feature has been found nonetheless! I remember seeing the full, widescreen keyboard at one time at the store, but I had no idea how to turn it on, much less how easy it is (press the center key on the D pad while in a text field). I’m sure this is common knowledge for those who are familiar with the , but I’m still trying to catch up and I haven’t even started looking around at any sites yet.

I’ve decided to celebrate the discovery of this feature (and the incredible dinner we had) by blogging this entire post on the itself.

I was expecting a package for a couple days now, but I didn’t realize it was going to be held at the front office. Good thing I checked today. Many thanks to Siobhan at WOM World for the opportunity to try out my first device!

Gorgeous N95 Photo Gallery

N95 CornerI was browsing around Flickr to find some N95 photos for my signature and came across this Flickr set by khedara. GSM Arena usually has some fantastic device pictures available when they post their reviews, but I believe these are much, much better, and if like gadget pr0n, then this is definitely worth viewing.

The N95 as a Video Player

leave a comment »

One of my favorite features of the N95 is how you can use it as a storage and playback device for quick videos to share with friends wherever you go. Whenever I update my phones firmware or format it back to default settings, there are always a couple videos I keep backed up on my computer to copy back to my 4gb microsd card when I get my phone up and running again. This is one of those videos.

Old Gregg is actually a small part of an episode of “The Mighty Boosh” from the BBC television series.

Technorati tags: Old Gregg, the only tag that matters.

Nokia Breast Cancer Fundraiser, Please Sign Up

From Olly on Howardforums.com. . . Nokia Breast Cancer Fundraiser

Hey all, just wanted to link you guys up to something I think is really great that our favorite Finnish company is up to.

There’s an employee at the Nokia Chicago Flagship store that has recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. To support her, a team from the store will be walking in the “Making Strides” event (October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month). Nokia has VERY generously pledged to match each and every donation made 100%, so please, PLEASE get over there and donate.”

If not only to do the right thing, I’d donate $50 to the Nokia team in Chicago for fun if they asked. I’ve never met a nicer group of people in my life and they’re all more than worth it.

The goal for the fundraiser is $4000, and over $1000 has already been donated. It doesn’t matter if you can only donate a few dollars. Every penny makes a difference.

The original website can be found here to sign up your own team: Nokia Team Page

To donate through my team directly, please visit this page: Jonathan Bruha

The N95 Upgraded: Enter N95-3

leave a comment »

When the original Nokia N95 was released in early April, it was an exciting time for every S60 enthusiast. The N95 had specs that were unparalleled when it was first announced; a 5mp autofocus camera, integrated GPS, 160mb of internal memory, and every possible option for connectivity that exists to date. With so many features, most users (including myself) had no problem shelling out $800+ for their first N95.

Over time though, people began to discover problems with the N95. For one, the battery life was much shorter than expected. Users would only get about 6-8 hours of life out of it with normal usage before it would give the dreaded “Battery low” warning and turn off. The N95 also suffered from a RAM shortage, just like most devices with S60 3rd Edition. All it took was an accidental press of the media button while browsing the web to make one or both of the applications crash, if not reboot the device entirely. Another problem plaguing the N95 was the lack of high speed data. WLAN was always an option, but most people are outside a wireless network more often than they are within one, leaving EDGE as the fastest connection available (comparable to a 56K modem connection).

The N95-3 seems to have tackled all of these issues in hopes to win back North American market share for Nokia and bring a much better user experience to its users, but is it going to be enough? Is the N95-3 going to replace the original N95? Read on to see what I think about it…
